History of The Glenrothes
The Glenrothes distillery was founded in 1879 in Rothes, one of the great distilling towns of Speyside, and produced its first spirit in 1879. Over the following century it grew into a substantial distillery whose high-quality malt became a prized component of blends such as Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse. Its single malt, long championed by the London wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd, developed a devoted following before the brand returned fully to its owner, Edrington, in 2017.
