Culloden

v cxThe Battle of Culloden on the 16th April 1746 saw the defeat of the Jacobite rebellion. The 1745 rebellion was aimed at instating Charles Edward Stewart known as Bonny Prince Charlie or “the young pretender” as the king of Britain. However the rebellion was quashed and ended with 8,000 British troops defeating around 6,000 Scots on the outskirts of Inverness. Bonny Prince Charlie fled to the Isle of Skye before making his way to France.

There is a visitor centre open from 10.00am to 16.00hrs during the winter and open later in the summer months to 19.00hrs. Entrance fee to the visitor centre is £11 per adult. The battlefield is open at all times.
