Argyllshire Gathering (Oban Highland Games)

Argyllshire gathering (Oban) Highland games is held on Thursday the 26th August. The location, Mossfield Park is the town of Oban in Argyll. 

What to expect

How to get there

Mossfield Park is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the Town centre. In good traffic this would only be a few minutes from any part of the town.There are numerous public transport options to get to Oban. The train and bus from Glasgow both take around 3 hours. With numerous daily departures. These are normally aligned to some of the Caledonian Macbrayne ferry times so that passengers can make onward sailings to the islands. The train timetable and prices can be found on the Scotrail website.If travelling by car Oban is approximately 100 miles from Glasgow and 120 miles from Edinburgh. The travel time by car does vary depending on the time of year and day however expect a journey time of around 2.5 hours from Glasgow and 3 hours from Edinburgh.However there are many attractions on the way so it is best to plan your route and enjoy the stunning scenery en route.

Tickets

Tickets can be purchased on the day at the gates. Ticket prices are:Adult – £12Child (Under 14) – £6Family (2 adults & 2 Children) – £30Parking is reserved for Blue permit holders only. Other options are the car parks at Lochavullin, The Corran Halls, The Swimming pool or the at the piers. Where to stay

Oban is a tourist town and there are many hotels, guest houses, B&B, hostels and campsites to stay at. Most are located on the seafront or up the hill towards McCaigs Tower. Most would only be a short walk to the town centre.

It is also worth visiting McCaig’s tower, Oban distillery, Dunollie castle, Castle Stalker & Gylen Castle. It is also possible to take day trips to the Island of Mull or beyond and see sights such as Iona abbey, Duart Castle or Fingals cave.
